The date of the Book of Revelation can be a very important factor in determining its interpretation. If the traditional late date of about a.d. 95 is the correct view then it renders all forms of the preterist interpretation of the Book of Revelation impossible, because Revelation is said to be a prophecy of the future and could not be a prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple by the Romans in a.d. 70.
However, for those of us futurist, it does not matter when Revelation was given by the Lord to the Apostle John since even now most of its events are future, even to our day. Therefore, the early date is essential for the preterist view of Revelation to even be considered a possibility. This is why if the futurist can demonstrate that the late date is true, then it eliminates the preterist view of Revelation from the field.
